The Adventures of...

The Comic Book

I have fought broccolli, gone without sleep, journeyed into a meatball and battled the undead for ORBIS. I did this all in my book, "The Adventures of..."

In fifth grade, my friend and I set off on my journey by creating a comic book as a project to raise awareness for water pollution. Seeing how much my friends and I valued the project, my mom suggested that, ‘we should make copies of it so that your friends have a copy of their own!’ We printed seventy comic books which I gave out to my teachers and classmates. With my friends’ and families’ support, I set off to create three more comic books in the next few years, each time making more and more copies and with different people. As I trekked onwards, I began focusing on the intention of funding an organization. One day my parents and I were able to get in touch with a publisher from Red Publishing who offered to publish it.

We eventually took the offer, knowing that the project would be able to help a lot of people. I named the book ‘The Adventures of...’ to spread the message that anyone can go on their own adventure and make a difference if they put their mind to it. We went to work for several months. The path became more steep and jagged as we went on.

We went insane when we realized that we had earned 45,000 HKD in proceeds. We sent everything to ORBIS, an organization that gives eye-care to people in poverty. I

decided to send the money to ORBIS because my family has always had a valuable connection with eye-care. Donating to this organization, I had my first taste of being active to a community. My journey had concluded and it was time to return home.

As I flipped to the last page of ‘A Long Walk to Water’, I realized that my adventure was not over. The book was extremely inspiring. It had been almost half a year since my last project and I was eager to start something new. Reading about the two kids from Sudan and the hardships they endured, I wanted badly to make a difference. I wanted to make a sequel, this time using my experience from these past few years to heighten the quality of the follow-up novel. I could see the vast landscapes ahead of me. Behind the land of steep mountains and jagged rocks I saw a forest with bushes blooming flowers of opportunity and trees bearing fruits of change and revelation. My vision is to raise money like I did with my previous book, except this time completely dedicated to helping the organization Water for Sudan. I took my first step by introducing my new project and your book ‘A Long Walk to Water’ to my classmates with a video. Luckily, some of them responded, saying that they wanted to participate.

I still have miles ahead of me, and thererfore miles of web page to fill.
