I'm the guy in the middle of the picture, and that's my family. My name is Julian Yau. I attend Hong Kong International School, and I love making art.
Since I was in preschool, I enjoyed making video game consoles out of paper, as I wasn't allowed yet to have one. As I became older, I built cars, robots, transformers and 'time machines' out of paper. During primary school, I really enjoyed playing a game called Pokemon. This lead to my obsession with drawing. I began to be so passionate about it, that I would often spend a few hours every day practicing.
In fifth grade, my friend and I created and distributed a comic to raise awareness for water pollution. We printed 70 copies and handed it among our classmates and teachers. In the following years, I collaborated with different classmates to make sequels to the comic.
At the same time, I was beginning to make movies with iMovie, and experimenting different software. By sixth grade, I became so familiar with video-making that I made all my projects in video formats, which my classmates seemed to enjoy.
In seventh grade, I had stopped making comics and turned my focus onto movie making and practicing drawing. During summer vacation however, my mom and I were able to contact publishers who offered to publish my comic books. In a few months, I had officially published 'The adventures of...', a book that included all of my comics back to back. The comic was sold at the Hong Kong Book Fair and all proceeds were donated to ORBIS, a charity committed to help developing countries to save sight and supported by our family for many years.
In the summer of 2013, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the New York Film Academy. There, I was able to work with a diverse group of students who also had a lot of background experience with film making, adn I also advanced my technicaal skills.
Finally, after creating so much and learning how to build a website, it's about time for me to share it. So I present to you, YauJulian.com, a website that showcases my videos, paper crafts, and drawings throughout my life. This website was not created from a template. Enjoy!
